Program Description

Social Security's Retirement Insurance Benefits are federally funded and administered by the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA).

Program Requirements

These are benefits that apply to individuals who have earned enough Social Security credits and are at least age 62.

Based on the information you gave, you could get Social Security retirement benefits beginning at age 62 if you have enough work credits.

Would you like an estimate of how much your monthly benefit might be?
If you are a worker age 60 and older, you will receive your annual Social Security Statement in the mail three months before your birthday. You can also access your statement online. The statement will tell you if you have enough credits for retirement benefits and, if so, how much your benefit will be.

You can also get a personalized estimate of your Social Security benefits using the online Retirement Estimator.

Application Process

Visit the Apply For Social Security Benefits webpage to apply online.

All individuals will need to create a my Social Security account to access their personalized online statement.

Social Security will also mail a one-time paper Social Security Statement to individuals three months before they turn 25 years of age. Afterwards, statement information will only be provided online.
